The University of Rhode Island selected Dimeo to serve as their construction manager on the new 186,258 sf College of Engineering Building. The new “H”-shaped facility, which includes a walk-out lower level, 6-story bridge structure and 2 – 4 story office wings, replaces five separate buildings built in the 1950 and 60’s. The first floor, located on the Quad level, will have a large south-facing commons and computer lab, and features a clear span commons area with café, with no columns, as part of the bridge structure. The first floor also features a combination of instructional labs and interactive classrooms opening up to student interaction spaces. The upper floors will comprise flexible, modular labs near the faculty offices and graduate student workstations.
In December 2017, the University awarded the renovation of Bliss Hall to Dimeo Construction Company.
These adjacencies will help to create a research environment that encourages and supports collaboration and interaction. The new COE is seeking to obtain a LEED Silver rating.
