Dimeo Construction Company recently completed Phase 2 of the MA College of Art and Design (MassArt), Bakalar & Paine Galleries renovations. This 17,196 sf project designed by designLAB consisted of work primarily focused on the interior renovation of the gallery affiliated spaces and the completion of the plaza initiated in Phase 1. Interior work included extensive demolition, full abatement of asbestos containing materials, upgrading the building systems, conforming to current ADA accessibility standards, addition of an elevator and re-configuring spaces to allow for the introduction of new, and expansion of current, gallery programs. The above work generated full compliance for the South Building Classroom spaces. This involved renovation of 28,000sf of classroom and support space inclusive of demolition of all the MEP’s and installation of new plumbing and electrical systems. ADA accessibility and life safety issues were also upgraded for code compliance.
We are currently underway on the exterior scope which includes enabling site work to bring new services into the South Building from Palace Road, and landscaping improvements to complete the front plaza off Huntington Avenue and connect the landscaping back to the Design and Media Center.
