Dimeo "Sets A Place At The Table" with CANstruction
October 6, 2008
A NIGHT AT THE DRIVE IN - BENEFITS THE RI FOOD BANK at CANSTRUCTION with the WORLD PREMIER - SET A PLACE AT THE TABLE.
PROVIDENCE, RI - CANstruction Rhode Island 2008 was a design/build competition benefiting the Rhode Island Food Bank. Local area architects, engineers and construction professionals used canned food to show off their design/build talents by constructing amazing canstructures. Our team wanted do something that represented a RI landmark, and created something that was more interactive - that would draw viewers in. The Rustic Drive-in is well-known throughout the area. The team contacted the Food Bank to use their film "Set a Place at the Table" and projected it from the "movie house" onto the "screen", complete with speakers to help make sure the message was heard. Because of the complex structure of the famous arrow on the Rustic's sign, the team did a test build to make sure that the design would work when building out of canned goods. Many hours were
spent coordinating the efforts of securing donations, obtaining the products and assembling and dismantling the project. Whole Foods Market and Cento Tuna in particular were very generous with donations.
