Dimeo Construction Company completes office renovations to the Wilde Building for CIGNA

Bloomfield, CT - Dimeo Construction Company was selected by CIGNA to selectively demolish all interior office finishes including floors, walls and ceilings while maintaining all public and "core" areas of the historic Wilde Building. This occupied renovation, designed by Friar Associates, was completed in "stacked" phases to keep the construction separate from the CIGNA employees.

The project was originally proposed on a 24 month schedule. Shortly after construction began, CIGNA sold their south building and requested that the entire project be completed in 12 months. This was a highly aggressive schedule, with 150k sf being completed every 8 weeks. Dimeo also met the additional challenge of remediating lead and asbestos, discovered after construction began. The original program called for upgrades to the existing mechanical and electrical systems. However, once work commenced, the team discovered that the systems were so deteriorated that it became necessary to replace the entire MEP infrastructure. Despite the added scope, Dimeo maintained the fast track schedule and completed the project within the revised 12 month schedule.

The new interior was designed to make use of diffused sunlight and complement the building's post modern design. A series of straight and stepped soffits were used to define the perimeter "hard walled" offices, and the fronts of the offices received an aluminum and glass wall system that matches the open office systems furniture.
