Dimeo Construction Company begins CIGNA Office Renovations Project
Bloomfield, CT - The Wilde Building at CIGNA is a Post Modern Architectural marvel of historical significance. Designed by Skidmore, Owens and Merrill (SOM) and built in 1953, the design and materials have withstood the test of time. The stainless steel and glass curtain wall system looks as new as it did in the 50's. All building materials are of the highest quality including granite, marble, glazed brick, glazed block and stainless steel.
Dimeo has been contracted to selectively demolish all the interior office finishes including floors, walls and ceilings while maintaining all public and "core" areas. The exterior is to remain untouched. The new interior design will consist of a half barrel vault soffit at the exterior windows on the first floor. A decorative and functional horizontal light shelf will extend from the stainless steel window system on the inboard side at the barrel vault locations to diffuse the sunlight and complement the post modern design. A series of straight and stepped soffits will be used to define the perimeter "hard walled" office. The "hard walled" offices will be constructed with sheetrock and metal studs; however the fronts of the offices will receive an aluminum and glass wall system that will match the open office systems furniture. The open office space will utilize systems furniture for the majority of the employees. Architect: Friar Associates.
