This new two-story, 72,350 gross square foot youth detention facility will accommodate 45 clients from DYS’s North East Region. DYS, the juvenile justice agency of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, works to protect the public and prevent crime by promoting positive change in the lives of youth committed to its custody, and by partnering with communities, families, government and provider agencies toward this end. The facility supports this mission by providing a positive, healthy environment for the building occupants. Programs include residential, educational, recreational, clinical, and dining facilities.
The facility’s program includes: 3-15 bedroom units, health services, food service, classrooms including specialized classrooms for art, music, and vocational education, library services, visitation rooms, regional administrative offices, staff and building support as well as a gym and exercise yard. The project accommodates 1 detained secure unit, 1 secure treatment unit & 1 revocation unit. Consisting of CMU building clad in stone and siding, numerous sustainable systems will be employed to achieve LEED Silver status, Particular attention was given to day lighting the interiors, while controlling head gain and glare through external shading devices.
