FM Global (www.fmglobal.com), a FORTUNE 1000 company and one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers, commissioned Dimeo Construction Company to manage the construction of their new corporate offices. The new building makes more efficient use of space than the former headquarters, and allows for future growth. The four-story corporate offices accommodate up to 1,100 employees and include structured parking for 900 vehicles and a data center. Dimeo also performed related site improvements, which included a main entrance canopy, and two parking areas. The building achieved LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Having achieved LEED Gold certification, this new complex sits on 93 acres and is surrounded by trees; construction was confined to 27 acres to preserve open space. Woods are no more than 40 feet from the building at their closest point. Additional green features include: 40% less energy use than FM Global’s former HQ, preferred parking spaces for those who bike, carpool or drive hybrid vehicles, and tunnels under the roadway that allow wildlife to get from nearby wetlands to the Pocasset River. Attention to details such as room sensors that adjust temperatures, ventilation, lights and draperies, recycled air that is exposed to ultraviolet light to kill germs, and 90% of employee office space that has views to the outside providing ample natural lighting, reflect FM Global’s commitment to environmentally sensitive construction that is also a healthy work place for the employees.
