Union Station Renovations - Cookson America
Providence, RI
46,000 sf
Architect: Bergmeyer Associates
Dimeo served as Construction Manager on the reconstruction of the fire damaged, historical Memorial Plaza-Union Station building in downtown Providence. The building now serves as the North American headquarters of Cookson America in the central terminal, the Providence Chamber of Commerce in the western end of the building, and a variety of offices and restaurants in the remaining space.
Dimeo removed and replaced all melted steel structures, installing a new steel roof framing system and copper roof. Renovation of the clock tower consisted of the painstaking removal and numbering of each original stone, one by one. The tower was then rebuilt and each stone re-placed in its exact original position. The project included tenant fit-up after occupancy.
The Dimeo team worked closely with the architect and the RI Historical Society concerning exterior restoration.
