Having achieved LEED Gold certification, this new complex sits on 93 acres and is surrounded by trees; construction was confined to 27 acres to preserve open space. Woods are no more than 40 feet from the building at their closest point. Additional green features include: 40% less energy use than FM Global's former HQ, preferred parking spaces for those who bike, carpool or drive hybrid vehicles, and tunnels under the roadway that allow wildlife to get from nearby wetlands to the Pocasset River. Attention to details such as room sensors that adjust temperatures, ventilation, lights and draperies, recycled air that is exposed to ultraviolet light to kill germs, and 90% of employee office space that has views to the outside providing ample natural lighting, reflect FM Global's commitment to environmentally sensitive construction that is also a healthy work place for the employees.
